Soft searches

I have noticed soft searches - ID check by other public body happening quarterly.  Any ideas what this is about?

Soft searches can take place for a number of different reasons.  Very commonly it's insurance companies and credit cards doing a quick ID checks before sending you offers.  Insurance companies in particular will often do this if you've ever used one of the price-comparison sites.  You'll get an email or a letter saying "We notice your house insurance is due for renewal soon.  Try us, we can offer you a great price".
It's nothing to worry about - and soft searches are only seen by you, any lender looking at your credit file won't see them.
