I bought this chair/bench years ago. I didn't know what wood it was when I purchased it... I may want to part with it. Is there a way to identify what wood it is to put in sale details

    Love that!
    Looks comfy.

I think they were imported and it's Acacia or the other Asian one I can't remember....
Do a front shot with as little else in as possible and do a photo match on Google.

Quite a few exotic timbers are on the CITES list and can not be imported in to the UK legally or trade is restricted. Burmese teak (Tectona Grandis) is not on the list, but anyone sourcing it from Myanmar should consider the ethics of doing so.
African teak (Pericopsis Elata) is CITES listed, so you need to ensure that it complies with the regulations around trade.

Indeed Freebear, it's also a case that the 'teak' and 'oak' that used to be advertised from this area was not the variety expected but inferior for furniture.
But given most was decorative that wasn;t originally a problem.

Selling second hand won't be a problem either judging by Kazes reaction :)

I'd be a little cautious about advertising it as a specific type if you don't know the type.

But if it is oak then it should be a lot heavier than you'd expect from the size (my parents had an oak bench that weighed the same as my mother)

Yeh.... I know what you mean. It is "looking" like teak when i google "teak root chair" but that doesn't mean mine is teak. Googling "Oak root chair".... come up with nothing really. I didn't know if there was a way to indemnity easily that it is teak. It does weather to a white grey colour.
