Having a problems with edf
Writing on behalf of pensioner on reduced income

Traced it back to an  estimated
Bill that jumped the debit from around 600  To 1829  oct 22 to jan 23 (108 days)

Around 4.4k for the year going forward

Believe it or not on or around April the 1st

The 1828.99 has remained the outstanding balance . tried contacting them . estimated usage  for a bungalow 650 a month .

Accounting seems haphazard hard to make sense of

only constant the estimated worth repeating that estimated 1829 debit

A 1287 jump in debit included

1088 charges

Estimated or not Not clear
total bill includes a
refund of 199 which appears to have been added on to the debit  rather than intuitively deducted from the  opening debit  of 542.19

To add to the sense of confusion
The Direct debit for this period was nothing at all .

Not clear why this was as the purpose of the system is to smooth out payments rather than having a lumpy bill .

Unless we were in credit ?

Is it possible the electricity meter which is smart is In error and the gas which is not is overestimated .

What can I I do about this

Give them actual meter readings.  Then there won't be estimated anything.

That almost always needs to be the first step in things like this.

**** We are changing your monthly energy payment to 639 .00****

Error appears to originate for billing period April the 1st (not joking ) 2022 to October 07. 2022 (190 days) debit 313.22

Are we the victims of an April fool

    Next bill title oct 1 ( not 7 ?) to jan 16 (108days) we'll collect 1829.99 on immediately after 8th feb

This review is based on an estimate

The Debit also increased to 542.19

When a Refund of 199.00 appears to have added to the bill not deducted from Usage of 1088.80

estimate of 1829 .99 has remained the basis of all future ongoing bills .

Adding Roughly 1500 in debit debt in 109 days to a financially vulnerable pension  . ? Paying that back  ever since .

Causing ongoing emotional distress  and financial hardship . Still dealing  with the fallout .

Must be 10 calls endless backtracking as the direct debit time and time again is put up without consent to unsustainable levels.

Bill is for a small 3 bed bungalow . We are going to use less than the national average . For 8 months of the year our gas is turned off .

If by "refund" you mean they paid you £199 then that's correct, it increased the debt. In the same way you you paying them would reduce it.

The system generally works well when regular meter readings are given.  It tends to be haphazard if estimates with rare occasional readings are given.

EDF will bill exactly what they should if meter readings are supplied.

It should be added to the debt based on the opening balance.  So, that appears correct.
