Banging/knocking from flat roof

Hi all, thanks again for the replies to this one. The noises continue and while I wait for the installer to come and see if there's anything obvious, another roofer I asked said it was the first he'd heard of an EPDM roof making noises, it's normally fibreglass that this happens to.

I've had a look at the roof and can't see any obvious damage, splits, cracks etc. But I am by no means an expert. What I have noticed though is that with the gutters, the roof covering appears to come down into them but isn't secured to anything - I can put my hand under the gap and just about feel into the roof itself. There's also a small gap where the roof meets the house itself.

I wondered, is this normal, or could it be potentially a cause of the noises - perhaps wind blowing through and moving something within the roof? This might all be nonsense, as mentioned I'm no expert, but it wondered if this looks and sounds normal? Photos attached to hopefully illustrate (excuse the cobwebs)!
