Depends on the insurer, some will certainly say "5 or more years" but the industry is used to dealing with this. Normally, if required to provide proof, you'd either get the insurer to write a letter saying what it actually is (which they can only do if they bothered asking for proof themselves) or you send the old proof saying 9+ and the new shedule showing 5+ and no new claims therefore it stands that the old NCD increments by one.

As above. It's probably just how they show it. Mine has usually been written as 9+ years, although I did get a confirmation email from Sheila's Wheels saying 21 years on it a few years ago. Last claim was in June 2000, so last century!0
