NI credits for part time workers

I'm a little confused as to my future NI situation. I have been a full time mum since late 2010 and have been claiming child benefit, so I know my NI contributions are sorted for those years. My husband has been earning over the threshold of child benefit for about a year and a half. I have been looking for work for several years, but have been unsuccessful due to having to be very particular of the work I do due to childcare etc I have no family or friends who can help with the kids so I am only able to work part time term time, or remotely. Having been out of work for over 10 years, it has obviously been very difficult. I do have a casual, part time position invigilating exams, which obviously isn't all year round, and I'm only earning a little more than I would have got from the child benefit.
So, my question is. Once my NI credits run out (still getting the credits for a little while but no money), if I am not earning enough to pay NI, do I get credits, or would my husband have to pay for them to be topped up?

You will get credits for every pay period in which you earn at least the Lower Earnings Limit - that's currently £123 a week, or £533 a month.
You husband wouldn't have to pay for them to be topped up, but it is a very good use for money if you have average life expectancy and are otherwise going to get less that the maximum State Pension.
Have you checked your State Pension forecast ?

Note that it is not usually necessary to have every NI year full to reach the maximum, so some gaps may not be a problem. And you can always make voluntary contributions to fill gaps up to six years in the past (currently longer).0 -
