Another one in the ‘bite their hand off’ camp.

100% take the VR in your position. Me and a ton of colleagues of similar age waiting to be offered such a package! You're looking a gift horse in the mouth!3

I was in a similar position. If you don't take VR, it will feel like you're working for a year for free. VR gave me the push I needed, I took it, retired and haven't regretted it.

I would also bite that hand off. It may not be offered again and the point about working a year 'for free' would really rankle.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Thanks for all the comments, it is looking pretty unanimous. Got two weeks to decide whether to apply but I think I'm pretty much there. I guess the next stumbling block will be how many others apply and whether it will be accepted.1

Being old and expensive is a good tactic in my experience.

In 2010 a couple of my friends were offered VR due to Government cuts, one was about 62, the other 57. They both took it and needless to say 14 years later neither of them are regretting the decision!1
