Hi. In process of buying a house. Now I have info that solar panels (PV and FIT) installed 2018 by Valo Group. Warranty apparently expired (5 year!) and group in liquidation. What are my options?
Persumably thry were still under some scheme. Is there such a thing as buying extended warranty though secondary company.
The solar panels were a big draw but I worry that they could be worthless. Thanks.

Are you worried that they won't work, or that they won't make you money?

There is actually little to go wrong with solar systems the most likely failure being the inverter but they are not expensive to replace. We just moved today to a house with a 12 panel system of similar age to yours and I am not at all concerned that the that there is no warrantee.

The house we just sold hat 6 panels installed 13 years ag, and apart from getting them cleaned a couple of times we never had to spend a penny on them.

Does the current owner get the FIT payments?

The main thing is to check that ownership will seamlessly pass to you with the house and that all the paperwork is in hand (MCS certificate, dno notification etc) so that you can get the FIT and export payments. Probably worth double checking that they are generating as expected but issues are unlikely.
  • Thanks for the reassurances. Current owner gets Fits and I'm confirming the recent payments.
    I've seen copy of MCS.
I'm leaving a house with panels of 10 years and never had a problem although they have been covered by a 10 year warranty so I've never had a concern..
I hear bad info on this Valo company (poor quality parts etc) which is where my concern is coming from.

Sounds like there is not a lot you can do, except just hope they are OK/only need any minor work.
