Still nothing for gas on my in house display (awaiting data is the only display) so I checked the new external meter today and the display is completely blank. I didn't look at it when it was fitted because the engineer said it would take up to 2 weeks. I will email Octopus today

Isnt this normal on some if not many smart gas meters - screen goes into sleep mode to preserve battery life - i.e. you have to wake it up by pressing a button to read the display ?

    Some generic reading guidance here

Google your specific meter type if that isn't a good enough set of clues.

Are you referring to the external gas meter or just the display monitor indoors?. The app on my phone also still says that Octopus is "still getting your meter data"

After having problems with my electric Smart Meter, Octopus sent an engineer around and they did a comms reboot test, ended up replacing the communications hub ( which sits on top of the Electric smart meter).

However they left the premises without “pairing” the Gas meter to the new communication hub.  So no gas smart meter readings, and a job not properly done.

So after a further7 weeks of complaining they sent another engineer around , who spotted straight away the gas meter was not paired. He then fitted a new Gas meter, paired it to the Comms hub , and an hour or so later the IHD showed both Gas and Electric usage.

As others have said, the IHD should show the Electric readings almost straight away.

I’m afraid only perseverance will get the outcome you need.
This may be my problem too. The electric readings showed straight away but I currently have no access to any gas readings indoors or outside on the meter.

The display / buttons on the actual meter - the IHD is just that - a fancy way of relaying meter data - and when setup well - actual costs - to the consumer.

Could someone please advise. I’ve had a new gas smart meter installed and the engineer that removed the old one said that whoever took the imperial meter out didn’t update the meter database. Consequently British Gas were interpreting my readings as imperial rather than metric. Have I been overcharged?

Possibly. Better start a new thread for your issue, and post up details of what BG show on the bill.

I have just had a reply from Octopus to say "It seems that the meter has been installed but not commissioned, which means it hasn't established a connection yet.  I will ask the meter to communicate the error and check for any updates tomorrow morning. It may take a minimum of 24 hours for the error to show up, and then our smart meter specialist will look into it remotely"
