Fitting a Mira shower tray

I am looking for advice on fitting a shower tray after my old one cracked. The advice on the net is that you should remove the old floor boards and replace them with marine ply. I can't do this, so is it possible to lay 18mm marine ply on the floor boards and secure the tray to that.

As long as the floorboards are level and securely attached to the joists, you should be OK. I'd ad some more screws into the floorboards as they are probably nailed down. When attaching the ply, make sure you use screws long enough to go through the floorboards and into the joist.

If it is suspected that movement affected the existing tray it would be a good policy to lift the floorboards and check the joists and wallplates to see if they are sound.

Hi Eldi, thanks for your reply. To extend the bathroom an access was cut through a brick wall into a bedroom. The builder then created a shower enclosure.
The tray sat on floorboards and a band of cement that was placed on top of the remaining brick partition under the floor. Part of this had crumbled which I think caused the crack.
I have easy access under the floor and the joists seem fine.

I have added ply over floorboards then the shower tray in 2 houses and have been fine. One was a light weight acrylic and one a stone resin tray

Thanks flasg67, that gives me a little more confidence that the solution will work.
