My old Halifax clarity card expires this week. I sent for a new one which arrived quite quickly. It still has the same numbers and pin number. Is there anything I need to do to make it active? I have read the notes which come with it but nothing mentioned about activation, is it ready to go. It's to use abroad for a forthcoming holiday. My old card has served me well over the past few years.
Kind regards Jeff.

I don't remember having to activate the last new Clarity card I was sent, but to remove any doubts just use yours for a purchase before you depart.

You don't normally need to do anything to activate a replacement card - if you do need to do anything, it'll usually have a sticker on the front telling you what to do (usually either phoning them or going online). But mostly, if it's just a bog-standard replacement for an expired card, it's usually good to go straight away. It's very likely that the first transaction you make, you'll have to enter your PIN (rather than contactless), but that's about it.1

As above - nip down to the nearest supermarket and buy something using Chip & Pin for the first transaction to confirm payment.Unless it's declined you'll be good to go.I would then make a second purchase with contactless to ensure both options are accepted.Best done well in advance of travel to avoid any dramas should there be an issue, which is very unlikely.1
