I’m concerned about the default being removed from my file on September 7th. However, I’ve been just checked my file and can see over credit limit alert gone on it today -

this will still leave a mark indicating I went over my credit limit. This could potentially impact my ability to secure a mortgage, which is causing me a lot of stress. Is there any way to address or challenge this?

    Thank you
Did you go over the limit? If so it's factual so shouldn't be removed.

If you go over you can make a payment immediately and bring it down and it's unlikely to be reported

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hey thanks for your response - Sorry I haven't had any contact with Capital One since April 2018, and I've had this default since September 2018. I assumed it would drop off after six years without contact, but now, out of the blue, I'?e got a new alert today on Transunion that I've gone over my credit limit, even though the balance has been the same for the last six years and the default is about to fall off. I’ve not used this card since Mar/Apr- 2018

There are 2 separate things here

    1) a default from September 2018 will go in September 2024 like normal
    2) a warning about going over your limit - ignore the email, go into the app or online banking and check there is no spend on the card as it could be there is a fraud going on, perhaps even a recurring payment or interest

Thanks you so much for your response, this is strange because since default was in place account was closed and I’ve never received any new credit card from capital one so not possible unless they’ve put further charges on the account ? As I can’t log into online account but even after checking it on Transunion balance remains the same £1826 from Apr-2018 till this alert.

Raise a complaint with Capital One

If it was defaulted 6 years ago it should be removed and depending on when it was last acknowledged, it could be statute barred so should be removed. @sourcrates usually has good advice on this subject

Hey thank you once again for prompt reply - would this still applies even default expiry date is 07-Sept-24 ? As the balance remained same since April-18 but default was imposed on 07-Sept-2018?
    many thanks

The default date is all that matters - it's for 3-6 missed contractual payments usually so September is fine, it will go from the live report on the 7th give or take a day for the leap year though won't show immediately on free ones - there will be no trace of that default any more. The over limit though I would still contact them and complain, I suppose they might have shut the card and made the limit 0 ahead of the 6 year rule but I'd still check just in case, better than having a different missed payment issue.
