Mattress advice needed please.

Options
Hi,

We are looking to buy a new mattress and and I'm starting to feel slightly bogged down with all the info/advice I've read or been told by salesmen.

We spent half an hour trying to get away from a very obnoxious and pushy salesamn in our local 'Dreams' store yesterday.

We 'think' we have narrowed it down to a pocket sprung mattress with a layer of memory foam built in. My OH has back problems and this seems to suit him.

Can anyone recommend any good brands or stores? Our budget is about £300. Also, do you think it would be better to go for a really good latex layer on our budget? I have heard that some cheaper memory foams aren't so good.

Any help is greatly appreciated.;)

Hi, I have just bought a new mattress from Argos. Their website is very good, and delivery service excellent. It is a silent night memory foam mattress and it's very comfortable. It was around £300. I would definitely recommend looking there.

I have just ordered a matress from Ikea, after a lot of research. A lot of people have recommended matresses from Ikea. But will only know whats its really like on Monday when it gets delivered!

Try Mattressman.co.uk. We bought from them and got cashback via quidco.

    Hi andandem,

Another vote for www.mattressman.co.uk They do free next day delivery to mainland UK and lots of MSE users have used and recommended this company.

Edit: I've just looked at that site and they have their winter sale on now...I'm not sure how the prices compare with other sales....as with any recommendation on MSE it would be wise to check other websites for the best prices.

I'd thought of Ikea but we don't want to change the whole bed and don't think the Ikea ones are the same sizes?

Mattressman looks excellent, really interested in the Slumberland Memory seal, also seen one on mattressmegastore.
    Has anyone used them?
  • I need a new mattress too - does anyone know how you get rid of your old one afterwards?

Some shops will remove them for you, however we intend to cut ours into blackbag size pieces and take it to the tip as I'd be too ashamed to let anyone see it:o Your local coucil would also collect, I think it's around £15/£20 around here.

Hi, I have used Mattress Man and recommended them to a family member too-both of us found they had what we needed, it was affordable, they offer a four hour delivery window, free delivery Mon-Fri and a really knowledgeable freephone helpline if you have any questions. Do be aware that Saturday delivery is charged for, but this is made clear when you order.
