Stafford Railway BS account closure

Trying to close my account and withdrawn the cash, what a pain...
I have a two page form to fill in and send back which I did but it's not good enough because it's not a 'real' signature. They want me to print the form, sign it, scan it, and return it
I don't have a printer...
I'm guessing they'll send me a form in the post to return.
What a pain, don't expect your money quickly.

Can you not visit their branch and do it all in person? That's the way we always used to have to do things. Or would it be quicker to withdraw almost all your cash then take whatever time it takes to do the full closure?Reed0

Does the OP live near their branch?Reed_Richards said:Can you not visit their branch and do it all in person? That's the way we always used to have to do things. Sorry I'm not near a branch, I opened the account online.0

Yeah I get that, but why require a wet signature when they have nothing to compare it against?0

You don't need a printer or their forms, Just write a few lines in a letter, sign it, and post it with the passbook. Relatively painless I'd have thought.

That might be the next step in your frustrating journey. I had it with Yorkshire where I sent them a letter to close an ancient passbook account and they wrote back to say that they couldn't check my signature because they didn't have one on file and then, ridiculously, they asked me to submit my signature on the enclosed form. I did so and they closed the account. No ID or signature verification was performed so I could have been the same "bad person" on both occasions and the signatures would still have matched. So I placed that organisation into my imaginary box of fools.ThePirates said:Yeah I get that, but why require a wet signature when they have nothing to compare it against?

We don't normally expect our money instantly when we choose to open a passbook account.

But all of their accounts are passbook operated. Have you only opened and funded it in the last couple of days or something? How come you haven't got a passbook?0

Opened about a month ago!
It's not a big issue but just wanted to make others aware!0
