What have they charged you for and on what grounds?

To be honest I dont think your term "direct hire" was a good one to use... under credit hire youre are the one hiring the car whereas if a third party has instructed the hire & is settling the bill then you aren't the hirer. As such credit hire more closely fits the term.

It also shows the importance of reading what you are signing even if someone is trying to hurry you, a credit hire car is very obviously so from the terms as it will have a lot of concepts that dont exist for another type of hire.

I am confused as to what you've been billed for though, normally the TPI would simply settle the bill at their commercial rate rather than credit hire rate if they can show they offered hire prior to the credit hire commencing.
  • Just to add to this thread. I have also experienced stress secondhand in dealing with a similar matter through a company that describes themselves as a legal practice, specialising in dealing with insurance litigation. They were instructed to recover on the insured's behalf (not Enterprises) for what I can described as being excessive fees to do with a 'no fault' car credit hire agreement taken out and signed in my opinion as being signed under duress. Unfortunately, Enterprise was the car hire company advised by the accident victims' insurers.

Observations in hindsight - Don't be conned into thinking you insurance policy provides a suitable 'courtesy car' of the same or 'like' as your own. When taking our car insurance sign up for 'guaranteed replacement', whilst your car is in repair. If you don't, the car hire company, may not have a suitable replacement available and you could be offered a 'no fault' car hire credit agreement. If you do, that's when your problems start! Needs investigating. How many other drivers have fallen foul of this practice?
