When you reach pension age, do your benefits stop?

Are all your benefits stopped when you reach retirement age and replaced with a pension does anyone know? I'd imagine yes apart from housing benefit?

Thanks.

Some do and some don't but even then it's not clear cut. UC for example will stop once you reach pension age unless you're part of a couple where the other party is under state pension age.  Carers allowance is an overlapping benefit with state pension but you may still have the underlying entitlement to it which gives an increase in how much pension credit you may qualify for.

It's complicated and really dependant on individual circumstances, especially around state pension age and mixed age couples, and it would be wise to get a full benefits check before doing anything as the differences in what you qualify for can be quite large.

Citizen's Advice are usually pretty good at letting you know what's happening with benefits so I suggest you chat with them.

What benefits are you currently receiving ? Have you paid enough NI contributions for a full state pension? Benefits like ESA would stop. Housing benefits and council tax support would continue but you may need to update them that you are receiving state pension. PIP continues past state pension age. You may qualify for pension credit if you are single and on a disability benefit or your state pension is going to be low.

I'm several years away from retirement age but was just wondering really. I'm on LCWRA. I've paid enough NI for the lower rate pension. I guess my LCWRA and the Standard Allowance will be replaced by my pension. Pity, I was hoping I'd get that on top of my current benefits lol.

I was on ESA before I retired and got full housing benefit and council tax benefit.   A few weeks before I reached retirement age I got a letter from the DWP advising me my ESA would stop and my state pension would start.  When I contacted the council they said they already knew of the changes.

Sometime later I was awarded Attendance Allowance and when I told the council (a different one) they said they already knew.

To tell you the truth I was quite impressed with the DWP and different councils  :)

What do you mean by "the lower rate pension? "
There is only the new state pension, the amount of which is determined by your NI record. What exactly does your pension forecast say, ( the whole forecast, not just looking at the headline figure.)

New state pension is around £203 a week. If you are on a single UC claim then that will end when you turn state pension age. UC only continues past state pension age if you have a younger partner.

That's quite sometime away and no one can predict if benefits would be the same that far down the line. You'd be better off getting some expert advice nearer the time.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
