New Home Insurance. Claim or No Claim?

Options
Hi,

We're getting new home insurance and unsure if we need to state "Yes" to "made claim in the last five years?".

Last year, we had poor work done to our bathroom and wanted to claim on our insurance. Unfortunately, we were told because there were no contract between the bathroom fitter and us, it is unlikely anything will come of our claim (lesson learnt, move on). The claim was withdrawn, no further action taken. Do we need to declare we have made a claim?

I have also opted for "Yes" to see the given options, and there are no obvious options to what we should choose if we did declare. Our current insurers have said we "should" inform of claim to any new insurer, we're happy to do so but it's all very unclear.

TIA

Was this a claim on the main Home Insurance or the Legal Expenses policy?

A declined or withdrawn claim has to be declared in the same way as a paid out claim. Using confused.com's system and assuming you claimed on Home not LE you'd select "other causes at home" and declare the value to be £1 or whatever the loss adjustors fee was if it got that far.

Ah, yes, it was on the main home insurance policy but under the legal advice/assistance policy?

"other causes at home"... It doesn't have that option on the comparison site.

So did you actually make a claim or just use the advice line? To make a claim, in my experience, you'd normally be filling in a form and dealing with the insurer whereas with the advice line its all on the phone and you'll be dealing with a fee earner from a panel insurance firm like Lyons Davidson Solicitors.

Each aggregator has their own, Confused.com has that, if you want to name your preferred aggregator then can see from their options.

We contacted our insurers to make a claim through the legal, then got passed on to a solicitor, we then went through the forms to claim back some money for poor workmanship. Eventually the solicitor deemed it unworthy and closed the case, and nothing came about of it.
