Tenancy agreement questions

I have a tenancy on a flat until Aug 24, but I have moved in with my new partner early.  I understand I am liable for both my rent and council tax payments but can I stop paying for other utilities ie water/electricity/gas, TV licence etc?  Any info/help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

    TV licence yes.

The others your tenancy agreement will almost certainly say you are responsible for paying these during the duration of the tenancy. You can clearly turn everything off which will therefore reduce you to standing charges/fixed cost elements.

Only way to stop it is to have the services disconnected but this in itself comes at a cost which will most likely exceed the standing charges even if it was allowed by your tenancy agreement and you could be liable for the cost of reconnecting it at the end too.

Have you spoken to the landlord about your early vacating the property? You can acknowledge that you are responsible for the rent until the end of the agreement unless they find someone earlier but for their sake its better if someone is living in the property just in case there is an escape of water from one of the neighbouring flats etc which will be spotted quicker and damage mitigated if someone is actively living in it.

That's the only way to go. Just ask LL, they might be glad of opportunity to get in early, do any decorating or tidying they feel necessary and then re advertise - and new tenants almost always means a higher rent.
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.
  • If you don't watch BBC there you don't need a TV licence.
CT, gas, electricity are your responsibility till the tenancy ends, as is rent.
Wifi/landline depends on your contract with the provider.
  • If you don't watch or record a live broadcast tv signal there you don't need a TV licence.
    FTFY.  It's not BBC.
