Default removed and account re registered

Options
Hello I need some help please.
So I had some financial difficulties back in 2017 and had no choice but to default on one of my accounts with three the balance was £500. Now six years later the default was removed from my credit file and three have now re registered it with the balance at £300 which is the correct balance. In the meantime I've been on a debt management plan with PayPal and making regular payments for those six years. The debt has been passed over to a couple of companies including past due credit and one other during that time but is now back with three as they are the ones that have placed it back on my file.
My question is are they allowed to do this and what are my options please I'm stressing so much about this as my credit score was going really well but I'm worried they are going to default me again as they are saying each month on the 18th they will register a missed payment until the debt is settled in full.

Have you ever made payments to this debt or acknowledged it in writing at any time?  It may be complicated if you are paying back some debts to them but not this one.

Hello yes I've been making smaller affordable payments to this particular account via PayPlan for 6 years and I have all that proof in the app. The debt has been with past due since 2019 so they have been diverting my payments to three. But now the account/debt was added back to my credit file it seems it is back with three

The credit record has to be historically accurate. If the record was showing a default then that should not be changed, and the whole entry will drop off after 6 years.

You say that you had difficulties in 2017. If a default was recorded then, or in early 2018, then that entry would now be gone.

If you had a second account with Three then it is possible that it defaulted at a different time and still is visible

If you feel that they have not marked your file correctly then you need to raise a formal complaint and give them 8 weeks to respond. You can then refer to an ombudsman.

So I checked my report and it was 6 years old last month hence the default being removed from my file. It's the only account I've ever had with three so the payments I was making via PayPlan were 100% going to three and they have confirmed this. My file is correct but now they have put the account  back on my credit file and registered a missed payment for April. I got in touch with their customer service and they say they will keep registering missed payments on the 18th of each month until I pay the full balance of £300 which I cannot do. So I'm now worrying after 3 months it will go to default again I'm not sure what is going to happen.

Further update so all the payments were being made to past due who were paying three for me. The debt is now back with three since the default was removed. PayPlan have now sent three a new offer were waiting on response.
In the meantime three complaints team have said for every month I don't pay the whole balance they will register a missed payment on my credit file. They say they can't offer me a payment plan as the account is now closed.
