Timpsons watch battery replacement became £225 repair bill

My 'money saving' trip to Timpsons to replace a battery in the Uppingham (Rutland) branch four years ago ended up in disaster.
The watch worked perfectly well until the battery died, but the shop attendant told me the crown was broken. It was sent away and a few weeks and £225 later it was fixed.
I have since then and by chance come across another customer that had the same issue in the same branch and for the same cost. Please get in touch if you have had the same problem in this branch.

That's a pretty niche request.  And two broken crowns in four years is hardly a pattern that merits investigation.

What did Timpson's say when you queried it with them?

Maybe something that is better posted on local social media sites. Given the national usage of this site. Of course there is the search option on this site to see if someone has posted the same query.

I have not queried it with them yet, as it was four years ago and I have no proof, but I do think the watch was broken when trying to change the battery in the store. It had been working perfectly well until then!
If I find any more cases like mine I will most definitely query it with Timpsons.

A watch will work perfectly with a broken crown, you'll just find you have a problem when you go to change the time/date etc
