Repairs to access road

I am not sure were to post this but I am hoping someone might be able to help. We access our property off a highways owned road. It is a very busy single track road and people use our gateway as an unofficial passing place and it is eroding the road so badly there are massive potholes exposing underground cables.
The council say it is not their problem as although it is in the confines of the road it is a private access? They say it is up to us to improve it. This does not seem right as we do not own the land.
Has anyone had anything similar PLEASE?

If you do not own the track, then who does?
How many other access their homes off this track?
Maybe one that needs deeds etc digging out to see what exactly is your responsibility.Life in the slow lane0 -
We are the only house and come directly off the main road. The 'access track' is 2 meter if that. We have looked at our deed plan and it doesn't cover this area. Our boundary starts at our gateway.0

So if you are the only house why so much traffic in an access track? access to what?0

Sorry we are the only house off the road.
The road that we come off is a C road but has upwards of 100 cars a day and large HGV's. It is where this road meets out 'access track' that is being eroded.
I have added a picture to help. The black is the road. The orange is the 'access track' and the red line our gates. So cars are coming along the road. Pulling into our gateway and this is eroding the road.

If the potholes are so bad that cables are being exposed report this to whatever utility owns them. They may reinstate to a standard that protects them.0

If the utility don't act.
Is the room to put a big plant box with reflectors on it and you still get in/out?
lengthen the strip with ton bag of mot2 stone/sand so drivers use that more than your driveway?
EDIT..........
If its quiet over night a bag of ready mix concrete or tarmac

"macadams – can cure in two different ways. A reactive macadam, such as Tough Patch, cures through a chemical reaction within the product. Whereas a non-reactive macadam, such as Instant Road Repair and Permanent Pothole Repair, both cure when the product is compacted."1 -

Seems like the theory is you need to pay for it as only you benefit from that bit of road edge not being like the rest of the road edge, like paying for a dropped kerb for a new driveway. But the theory is breaking down as you are not the only person using it. One thing to try would be to push for more passing places along the road. Either taking some of the pressure off your entrance, or getting it acknowledged as a passing place.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If you don't own the road outside your property, can you access the Land Registry site for the road to see who does own it? I've seen other people mention you might need to pay £3 or £7 to get a copy of the register for it.
Is the road definitely not owned by the council / highways?0
