I am trying to arrange a balance transfer from my HSBC Expat credit card(Jersey) to another banks credit card and have already had a first attempt rejected by Barclays - is there anyway to find out what cards are accepted for balance transfers by the banks?

The problem is that Jersey isn't in the UK and most limit BTs and MTs to UK accounts. Unfortunately banks are good at calling out that restriction on MTs but not so good on BTs but having spoken to a couple (eg NatWest) a while back they advise they won't accept non-UK banks0

Are you now resident in the UK?
Aside from the above comment. Not living in the UK means you will not get a UK CC.Life in the slow lane0 -
Thinking about it, have you asked HSBC themselves? Again assuming you are now a UK resident. I know with Citi and AmEx if a customer changed legal jurisdiction (and were higher tier customers for AmEx) that they could transfer products/balances to the new country of residence.
You won't get any interest free offer etc on the BT but at least being on a UK product opens up the possibility of that in the future.0
