UC And Mortgage?

Hello to everybody on this board.

I have recently had a relationship breakdown with ex partner and he has left me for good just picking things up now. I have applied for council reduction and UC as well.

I have a question in regards to UC all utility bills are in my name. Child benefit is also in my name and I receive it. The house that I live in is in my ex partners name and he is named on the mortgage solely. There is a mortgage on the property and ex-partner is paying the mortgage as he always has.

I am not going to be claiming housing benefit because I don't need to but will Universal Credit have a problem with my Ex still paying the mortgage?

Many thanks

You cant claim housing benefit as it will now be part of the UC claim, however it only applies to renters.

To answer your question no it won't be a problem, you just won't claim for housing costs at all.

So when I get invited to the job centre for the first appointment will they ask me about housing costs which I don't have? If I tell the jobcentre that ex partner is paying mortgage will they be satisfied with this or make a fuss out of it?

just tell them you are staying in a property that is owned by your ex-partner / child's father. I don't think the fact that he has a mortgage on the property and is paying his own mortgage makes any difference. You may be asked where he lives now.

I know we're my ex lives so if they want to know I can give that info to them. My ex has said he is not going to give me anything for child maintenance could I say to UC that by paying the mortgage is his way of giving child maintenance.

I'm just really worried at the moment lots going through my mind what if UC say because my ex partner is paying the mortgage he is financially supporting me?

Your ex paying the mortgage will not affect any UC entitlement. To be honest I'm not convinced they will even ask.

What about child maintenance as ex has said he is not going to give child maintenance to me I haven't got a issue with this as he has left and I'm living in the family home but will UC have a problem with this?

Even if he was paying child maintenance it's disregarded anyway.
