Surveyor Complaints Procedure or via a solicitor

Hello. We have completed on a property and prior to this obtained a Level 2 RICS survey. We specifically asked the surveyor to report to us any potential structural issues. The survey failed to identify significant floor undulation on the first floor, visually obvious cut doors to warped frames, doors that do not open fully due to the floor undulation, sagging ceiling on the floor below. A full structural engineers report has identified a number of floor joists are insufficient to support the walls on the first floor that are supporting the roof. They will need reinforcing along with the upper floor replaced and levelled.
Would anyone recommend going through the companies own complaints procedure or is it best to instruct a solictor on the issue. Thank you

Assuming it's a RICS Surveyor, I think you need to raise it with the company first. I'm not 100% but I didn't think a L2 dealt with structural issues - I could be wrong.2

Thank you. It doesn’t go into a full structural report depths however it should point out potential issues and suggestions on further investigation. The said company website does state it will look for flooring undulation and door issues, as a part of the report.Bigphil1474 said:Assuming it's a RICS Surveyor, I think you need to raise it with the company first. A Level 2 does cover structural issues and this should have been picked up.
You should ask the firm for a copy of their Complaints Handling Procedure and follow their prescribed course of action. I'd also suggest not getting any works carried out yet as they will likely want to reinspect.2 -
Thank you for advising. I am obtaining quotes only at this point following the full structural report received.Tracet74 said:A Level 2 does cover structural issues and this should have been picked up.
