Santander Switch Complaint

Hi, has anyone else had difficulty with the recent £185 Santander switch offer? 
I applied for the switch weeks before the cut off date. The switch didn’t go ahead as planned but Santander just opened up a new account instead. When I questioned this I was told my current bank put a stop to the switch and I had now missed the deadline. I have tried to chase up the complaint I made but I have been unable to speak to the correct person to restart the switch, when I call now, and I have tried many different numbers, I am told they are unable to take my call now. Anyone else had the same service ?

    If you feel wronged, complain formally in writing (email, web form, in app), don't waste time ringing people - a documented trail of a complaint will start the clock ticking and they have to respond within 8 weeks and you have the FOS as an option after

    Account opening and account switching are two separate processes, even though you initiate both through the same online form. Santander are correct in opening a new account for you because that's what you applied for. The fact the switch failed is a separate issue, and is what you need to focus on - have you been told exactly why it failed in the first place? Might be helpful to know in case there's something you can do to resolve the error before trying again.

    As for the incentive, worst case you just hang onto the new Santander account until the next time they offer a switch incentive. Based on past offers, having an existing account doesn't matter. It's being paid incentive previously that restricts you.
