Dashcam fitting

My wife had a dashcam fitted but had to go back because it interfered with the computer on her car. They rewired it and then she realised the camera wasn't working. She went back and had it done again. This time it worked but the parking mode wouldn't work while the engine was off. The parking mode was the main reason for her buying it.
Now that wasn't her to go back again!
She actually wants her money back to go elsewhere and buy a different model as the shop told her they have loads of problems with that model
The question I have is: is she entitled to a refund of the £70  she pays to have it fitted?

    Welcome to the forum.

You say 'they' quite a lot. Who are 'they' and what is the shop?

If she bought in a shop and then took it to 'them' to fit it, 'they' are entitled to be paid for the work they have carried out for her.
If the dashcam is faulty or she told the seller she was buying it for the parking mode and that is not a function of that model then she could have grounds for a claim.

If she paid one entity to both supply and fit, that is different again.

Could you tell us dates for each event, who the various players are, and what she agreed with each party?

Edited to add: Was it Halfords?

Other shops often say the things they don't sell have multiple problems. Sometimes this is true, sometimes it's part of the sales patter.

If whoever the supplier and fitter (Are they one and the same?) are haven't yet given you a fully working product, and they've made several attempts to rectify it, I'd say you should be getting back what you've paid.

Probably yes, after a repeat performance you may request a price reduction, which in the case of fitting a dashcam that doesn't work correctly would most likely be a 100% price reduction.

Regarding fitting, even if purchased elsewhere, it could be argued they shouldn't have fit it if it isn't compatible with the car, however if the actual dashcam is faulty you'd claim the loss of the fitting fee as damages against whoever you purchased the dashcam from.

Of course if it was supply and fit they are on the hook either way.

A checking question is whether the dashcam is actually faulty or is it fine but has been installed incorrectly?
Some dashcams only need an ignition-switched power supply but of course any with parking mode also need to be connected to a permanent power supply.

With wanting parking mode cam requires 2 power sources. Sometimes not easy to pick up exactly which should be used, as some car systems still stay live for so long after turning off & will stay live with doors open.

    TBH
parking mode is a bit of a waste, as will only be any use if another car hits you, pedestrians will only be getting the back of them & even if you did get a face, will the police by interested in such a matter.

The shop she got the camera from was Halfords and they supplied the fitting.
She took it in for fitting on the 15th of April at 12pm and picked it up at 2pm. On the way back to work warning lights came up  she went back that evening 5pm and was told the could not do anything at that moment in time and would ring her back. They did not. She went back on Wednesday (she had to go back because no one would answer that phone) and was told to bring it back on Friday. The manager said he had fixed it(i.e. removed the warning light) but the dashcam want working at all. She went back again in Friday evening(missing her works social) sand was looked at and told it was now working.
I tried the parking mode which is supposed to show a blinking LED-there wasn't any thing blinking-'i shook the car, shaved the doors but nothing recorded we went back on Monday the 22nd and was offered an alternative camera. The assistant manager told her to binge it back on Tuesday as it would be a quick swap. She went in on Tuesday and was told the could not do it until Monday the 29th. She is fed up and just wants her money back including fitting costs, she lost all interest in Halfords and had asked for compensation.

Puzzled why you think shaking the car will activate the dash cam?  What sensor are you trying to trigger?

the camera has a sensor which detects movement and will record the event. Supposedly.
