They do NOT need to be on the same ring main circuit. Mine work between rings (loft to ground floor) and even through another CU (loft to garage, which has its own 'fuse box').35har1old said:

To give you an example I have a powerlinr in the living room and one in my bedroom and they are most definitely on different circuits but are the same rcd and they work1
