I currently have a fairly modern MacBook connected to an older monitor with a USBC to DisplayPort cable via one of the Mac's Thunderbolt/USBC ports. Generally I've been mainly using the laptop itself which is ok and just using the monitor occasionally and so cables etc not been a problem.
Working from home a bit more now and so have decided to reorganise my desk a bit so that the laptop is off to one side, use a separate keyboard/mouse and the monitor becomes my main display.
So, was thinking of getting a Thunderbolt hub or dock, preferably the former for price which will give me 1 cable connection to my Mac for display, external drive etc. Question, if the MacBook is connected to a hub via Thunderbolt 4, can I still use the the same USBC to DisplayPort to the monitor?

You should be able to as long as the hub/dock has graphics outlet capabilities.

Was looking either at the OWC hub as used them before and they were decent or a Belkin one as its available on the high street
Havent gotten my head around about what is a port shape and what is a signal type in this new age world... was fine back in the days of Scart, S.Video, Composite, Component etc0 -
If the hub says it is good for a monitor it should be fine. Plug your Thunderbolt to Displayport cable into the appropriate port in the hub. Use a USB C-C cable to connect the hub to your computer.
