Edinburgh Small Companies Trust PLC Share Certificate & Sale

Hi,
When my dad dies I inherited shares in Edinburgh Small Companies Trust. I know want to sell a number of these Shares (only a partial sale to keep me under the CGT limit).
The Share Certificate I have is the original from 2007 for Edinburgh Small Companies Trust.
I understand the Share are now known as abrdn UK Smaller Companies Growth Trust plc.
1/ If I send the Share Certificate for Edinburgh Small Companies Trust to a company like x-o to sell, is the original certificate acceptable? or do I need to get the certificate changed to Abrdn?
2/ If I do need to change to Abrdn Certificate how do I do that?
3/ I only want to sell a portion of the shares. Can a company like x-o do that? or do I have to sell the full certificate amount
Thanks in advance

How long ago did you inherit these? Any CBT liability will be based on the gain from the value at the time of your father's death.0

inherited in 2007. Value at the time was £996 (1000 shares). Value now is approx. £4.5 k so hope to sell around 850 shares0

1. If no-one has done this recently on here and can tell you then you could try contacting Abrdn and ask them directly, I think it may be https://www.abrdnuksmallercompaniesgrowthtrust.co.uk/en-gb/contact-and-support , they may direct you to their registrar (which will probably be someone like the Link Group or Equiniti) and they will be able to answer. I had to do something similar for two old lots of certificates and it was relatively painless.mvteng said:1/ If I send the Share Certificate for Edinburgh Small Companies Trust to a company like x-o to sell, is the original certificate acceptable? or do I need to get the certificate changed to Abrdn?

2. If it does need doing then you'll likely need to do it via the registrar who will likely have the details on their website.
3. Once transferred over to x-o you'll be able to login and see your holding and you'll be able to sell as many of them as you like. It's definitely not a sell-all only option if you transfer to x-o.0 -
For just a name change companies don't usually have new certificates issued so unless there have also been any e.g., share splits or consolidations it's probably still valid. If you trawl for a name change RNS or an annual report close to the time of the change it should tell you whether new certificates were to be issued. Alternatively, call the registrar to confirm.
To split the certificate you'd probably either need to contact the registrar, have new ones issued and then send one of them to X-O or send the one you have to X-O and then have the balance after your sale 'materialised' into a new certificate. Personally I'd just leave them in my account with X-O, certificates are a pain.
I've assumed that the certificate is in your name.1 -
Thanks - Yes - Certificate is in my name.wmb194 said:

I keep receiving the dividend cheques via computershare & I can see the investment showing as abrdn UK Smaller Companies Growth Trust plc in computershare. Same qty of shares.
I can also track the change from Edinburgh > Standard Life > Abdn online.
So are Computershare the registrars? is it them I need to contact?0 -

Sorry - Looks like I should have given more information in the original post.
The shares are registered as Abdn with Computershare . Does that help me?0 -
Yes, Computershare is one of the three main share registrars.mvteng said:
