ETA: I've fixed it now, thanks.

I use Dropbox to sync my photos from my android phone to my PC. It was working fine then suddenly (after uploading around 20 pics) I can't view the rest and get this message 'the hevc video extension is required'.
I have no idea why this has happened or what to do about it and I need the photos to list things in my online shop.
Any help gratefully received ~ in words of one syllable please as I'm not terribly tech savvy (sorry)

TIA

Hevc is a video codec (a 'decoding' file needed to watch certain types of video files).
So presumably the files you have are video and not single images?
For viewing video I'd suggest/recommend installing VLC on your PC as mentioned there. (I use it most days to watch video).

Thank you for replying. They are all photographs (single images).

ETA: I have worked it out and fixed it. It was a setting in my phone's camera.

I just checked the photos that have uploaded ok and they are all jpegs. The ones that haven't are heic (that means nothing to me). I'm thinking it might be a setting on my phone but I don't know how I've done this or how to correct it.

    HEIC is an iphone format.

Windows can't open them, but if you try it should prompt you to install the HEIC extension from the microsoft store.

No idea how good this article is but

Even Irfanview won't open them without the HEIC codec.

HEIC / HEVC only one letter different but they are for viewing different things.
'I' for images (High Effiency Image Codec), 'V' for video (High Effeciency Video Codec).
As you say that they are images then I guess that the message you were shown was wrong?

    Doh!!  High Efficiency Image codec.

Why didn't I think of that? I know what HEVC stands for- obviously acronym overload.
