Any nice quaint villages or towns to visit within 30 miles of Filey.

We went to Filey last year for 4 days and loved the area. Went to Bridlington, Whitby and Scarborough.
We are due to go again and it seems the weather is not in our favour so rather than just visit the same places again I wondered if there are any nice, interesting little towns to mooch round. Somewhere a bit picturesque with nice shops and cafes.
can anyone recommend any please. Thank you.

A couple of possibilities that spring to mind are Pickering, which I seem to recall has quite a large indoor market and is the terminus for the North York Moors heritage railway, and Malton, which apparently has a lot of independent food shops if that's of interest......0

Thank you for the suggestions. I just looked on Google images and Pickering looks lovely.0

Malton (foodie town), Helmsley, Beverley, Driffield, Thirsk. York is a little further, but plenty to do there.
The Yorkshire Wolds themselves are a forgotten part of England. Many historic villages to explore, Sledmere and its House, Rudston, Kilham.1 -
Heartbeat country: Goathland.
Thirsk is further than 30 miles but lovely and York is probably 40 miles but also worth visiting?0 -
Also if you like chocolate box picturesque I believe Thornton-le-Dale is rated, although I've never been there myself....

Thornton-le-Dale is indeed chocolate box and it's not far from Pickering.1

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs from Whitby to Pickering and back, stops at Goathland and Grosmont. Goathland was the Heartbeat village but now has connections with Harry Potter. It's good value if you have kids as kids are free all year. Bit pricey for adults (£49 per adult) but ticket lasts 12 months. Pickering is nice enough, but I wouldn't pay it a special visit - castle is okay. Robin Hoods Bay is quite nice, small coastal village.0
