I'm not sure when you will get a response.
Hopefully, appeals against automatic fixed late filing penalties are dealt with more quickly than other correspondence which is taking months for HMRC to respond to.
If HMRC accept your grounds of appeal provide a reasonable excuse for the late filing then the penalties will be cancelled.
If they do not agree you have a reasonable excuse, they will send you a letter which sets out their view of the matter and offer a review.
If you opt for a review the appeal will be looked at again but you can notify the Tax Tribunal of the appeal without a review.
If a review upholds the penalties you can notify the appeal to the Tax Tribunal.
The letters from HMRC will set out your rights and the time limits for your next action.
If you do notify your appeal to the Tax Tribunal then the timescales will depend on the directions they make.0 -
