British gas/Scottish power

Right, I have been with Scottish power for 2 1/2 years, this feburary British gas took it upon themselves to switch me from my current provider, I only  found out when had email saying sorry your leaving from Scottish power, so got on the phone and said I haven't made a switch what's going on, Scottish power said no worries we will sort it, fast forward to now and Scottish power closed my account so on the phone again and they said British gas had rejected the switch back, so on the phone to British gas to find out whats going on, only to find out that they had the wrong house number(as I live in housing association)  so when a property goes empty they said they had wrong address, but even so,  I had never been sent any information or bills, so my question is what do I do for a complaint as they have totally messed up and I had to open another account with Scottish power, BG their advice after speaking to a lady that was not in the call centre for them to submit an et to Scottish power, but after speaking back to Scottish power their advice(she did say its up to me) was to keep new account as an et will take up to 6 to 8 weeks and the new account will be ready next week, but I don't feel I should have to pay anything at all for the mistake British gas made as the et will transfer the bill basically to Scottish, so at the moment I'm keeping the new account with Scottish power but I'm lost what to do in this situation, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you have been switched away and then switched back, you will have to pay BG for what you used when you were their customer.

If you use the erroneous transfer process, you will only be paying SP.

This has happened many times before, the ET process exists precisely for this reason.

What are your actual losses here? Were you on a fix which you have now lost for example? Have you been charged exit fees for leaving a fix early? If you were on the standard variable tariff then it’s likely that the charges for the energy used and the SC will have been identical, so hopefully you’re not out of pocket on that score?
