Just got a letter from Barclaycard regarding a refund because they “didn’t contact me when they should have in the past”. No other details as to why I’m getting refunded but it is not an insignificant amount of money.  I am delighted of course but confused.  Anyone else got one or know any more?

As long as at some time in the past you were a Barclaycard customer - then there's nothing to worry about - take the money and be happy. It happens from time to time - they review accounts and make decisions - and if yours flew under the radar at the time on whatever criteria they set, they'll now be putting it right.

I did but it was a few years ago now.

If I remember it was to do with a credit card I had and got into difficulty paying it back. I did pay the card off. Then got a letter from them saying they should have done xyz and they didn't, here's £200.

I was surprised because I think the limit on the credit card was £200. Nice bonus.

Yes - that does happen - so take the money and do something nice with it (Or put it in a savings account for a rainy day - or at today's prices a rainy hour).

Could it have been that over time you were in what they call ‘Persistent Debt’ with their credit card and they didn’t write to inform you and suggest payment options? They are mandated to do so.
    Just a thought.

Oh, perhaps it was that!  Couldn’t have come at a better time so I will happily take it.  Thank you all.
  • Hi all, newbie here. When you received the letter from Barclaycard were you asked to send a copy of a bank statement on the response form along with a copy of your photo driving license. Thanks in advance.
