I have at least on one occasion given my DOB as 31 April 19xx. Took about a minute before they cottoned ongocurlygirl said:
I had a similar conversation and also said that they knew how much I paid. Also asked me for my date of birth so I could receive the £200 they owed me- the caller( man) began to say we needed it to process the payment-I said just refund my account, you already have the details. Very determined and I can see how people get pulled in.Told them they were not getting my date of birth and hung up.GrubbyGirl_2 said:I had a cold call from someone who said they were O2. I am with O2 but said I was happy with my plan thank you and was about to hang up. They said but we can offer you a much better rate than I was paying now. They then proceeded to ask me how much I was paying so I simply said "you're O2 so you know what I'm paying". They were really persistent and I kept saying - you tell me. They eventually hung up. Complete charlatansI usually give my d.o.b. as "The 32nd of Octember, Nineteen thunder and lightning."If it's one of those car accident claim calls, after providing the date of the incident, I just say "Oh, that one, I was killed in that!"2 -

If it's a bot, there's one reason, and that is that every second that their equipment is on the line to you, they can't be calling someone else. I concede that they are probably calling via VOIP and using a pretty powerful server somewhere outside the UK, but it will have a limit to how many people it can be trying to spam/scam simultaneously.Vectis said:
Why would you get into a conversation, whether with a real person or a bot, if it's obviously a sales call? Why not just put the phone down?

My date of birth was 2nd November 1893 for about 15 minutes one time, the confused scammer really couldn't cope with it.

I never answer any call unless the number is in my address book and this shows on the screen. If it’s important enough they will leave a message.0

I told the car accident caller that it would be wonderful if I could get some cash, because the driver of the police car I hit reckoned it was my fault.lincroft1710 said:

They haven't called back since.
P.S. No police cars were hurt in the telling of this story.3 -
A friend handed the phone to her three year old daughter to talk to them.0
