Car deposit

Morning all!
I went to view a car yesterday and I'm going back today to test drive it and make them an offer.
BUT I have a small problem, the money I'm using to buy the car i don't yet have.
I'm selling some shares which don't clear into my account until the 11th Jan.
Is this an unreasonable amount of time to expect a dealer to hold the car for me?
(It is a private dealer not a main dealer)

I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Time is money, if someone else can take it off their hands sooner rather than later, the quicker they can get another car in to sell. If they keep a car for 2 weeks this may eat into their profit - so they might not be enthusiastic about it, unfortunately.0

yes
if the car is still there on the 11th then you can leave a deposit
in the meantime fingers crossed nobody buys it ,
if they do , no worries , there will ALWAYS be another carspeed is good0 -
Best to discuss the matter with the dealer, he/she may oblige, may not.
As others have said, there are lots more cars for sale.0 -
Well I wish it was that simple, the car is an import which was never released in the UK, there isn't that many about and the one I've found is a great price for the age and money.
Guess I'll have to see what the dealer says..I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0 -
Can you buy it, or at least pay a sizeable deposit, using a credit card and then use the share proceeds to pay that off in full? You also get the protection inherent in paying by credit card.
By the way, what vehicle is it?0 -
I guess CC is an option.
Going to have a word with my dad see if he can help me out.. Fingers crossed!I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0 -

Ah! The good old Bank of Dad. I use that one as well.;)
You still didn't say what it was you were buying.0 -
By the time it's been serviced and is ready to be collected, your probably looking very early Jan anyway.
A couple more days shouldn't be too much to ask. Could always just say "Here is X depost, I will pick the car up on the 11th".0 -
Viewed the car today and I've put down a deposit.. Ready next week.
My dad is lending me the money so it's a short term 0% interest loan yay!
LandyAndy : It's a Honda Integra Type R. DC5. They were never released to the UK market so are quite hard to track down and this one ticked all the right boxes.I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0
