Travelodge INTERNET access ripoff

Just a quick warning for anyone planning to stay in a Travelodge in the UK.
the charges for internet use are DISGRACEFUL - absolutely disgraceful. I had a recent stay at Travelodge in Tiverton, Devon and was astounded by the amount they wanted to charge for internet access.
Surely providing an internet service for guests is a relatively cheap thing to do and every single hotel I've ever stayed at anywhere in the world has usually provided this for free and if not free then for a reasonable price.
£5 an hour is an absolute disgrace and potential guests should be warned what the internet costs when they visit the travelodge homepage for a particular location.
I know Travelodge provide low low prices by keeping all the extra costs down but providing a wifi service in a hotel is an extremely cheap thing. £5 an hour... what a joke. Even £2 an hour is a rip off.

we stayed at the embassy suites (Hilton group) in orlando and it was $10 a day.0

At the H10 Montcada in Barcelona, Internet access was free, just as it should be, I hate being scammed for extras such as £11.99 for the breakfast.0

They are there to make a profit, and it is purely optional, there prices are on the web site £5/hour or £12 a day. Some of travelodges special offer room prices are way too low compared to other companies so, some you win some you lose.
Another thing to remember is most of the revenue from travelodge will be business customers. The rates while a bit steep are typical of business hotels. Where to be honest most people would just claim this as an expense.0 -
Yup, sorry, the scam is there to make money out of business travellers who don't give a damn how much the net is, as they'll just claim it back as an expense. I've had to pay £20 for a days net access in places, but hey, it wasn't my money so i didn't care.
It's just a way of making money.. if you don't want to pay it, find a local net cafe0 -
I personally don't think it is a scam. It can't be called that, because they are telling you the price..
£5 an hour, is about average for wireless hotspots.. and does it cost them any money to install the equipment, Well think about it from a technical point of view.
Professional router, plus multiple access points, all making up one wireless network, plus a business internet package... just the router can cost £1000, plus a couple of hundred for each access point, which will be a MINIMUM of one per floor...and a business broadband package isn't £20 a month, like your home package is, you're talking over £200 a month probably!!!!
other wifi providers are around the same cost
£4.50 an hour with the cloud
£5 an hour with t-mobile (or £10 for a day!)
so, to be honest, they are inline with the industry. Not a scam, not a rip off
£5 an hour is acceptable, you're in a hotel, you spend a fiver, check your email, surf facebook or whatever other websites etc, and then you're done..
as a business traveller, i do pay this, it is a feature, not a perk. I wouldn't go to a hotel that doesn't have internet, free is better, but i'll pay if i need to.0 -
Just face it - if you don't like the charge then don't use it.0
