Gas meters used to be +/- 1% at full flow rate (Qmax) and and +/- 2% at 1/5 Rate (Qmin). They were also only required to register at 0.5 ft/hr but not tested for accuracy.
I believe that this figure has now raised to 3%.

Although it sounds bad gas is very hard to measure and there's a lot of swings and roundabouts.

Domestic meters are tested in controlled temperature environment and Industrial meters are mathematically compensated for temp and pressure

I enjoyed the comments on the article although it does make me despair at how unintelligent some of our citizens are.

They may feel the same about you if you were to comment on a subject that you felt you were familiar with, but actually had very little technical knowledge of. 😉

We tend on here towards being split between those who are here because they take an interest in the subjects being raised, and so have taken that time and trouble to learn about them, or who have simply gained knowledge through reading the threads and seeing what those better informed than us have to say. Sadly that will be less possible now since we have lost the likes of Sparky Grad, Dolor and others to malicious reporting and subsequent bans. The other half of the split is those who arrive here because their knowledge is lacking, and so want to ask questions. Some of those will go on to fit in to group one, as they will stay here, and learn. We do sometimes need to take a step back and remember that at some point, we too were the person without any knowledge, though!

That's why the Daily Mail exists and thrives online.

It's not a matter of the commenters not understanding, it's a matter of them simply making stuff up. If I don't know about a subject I don't simply make things up and state that it's all bad and the people behind it are out to get me.

Sorry, I'm not revisiting that conversation. It was a casual remark about Daily Mail readers that somebody here took too seriously.
