Every current account can come with zero overdraft - do you mean an account that simply won't allow it, even if he asked?

If so - then basic bank accounts are usually unable to get an overdraft - but they are sometimes limited in terms of other features and benefits then not being available.

Chase, Starling, Monzo, Kroo all come without overdraft by default.

You cannot usually apply for a Basic account - and even where you can. if you would be eligible for a 'normal' current account, you wouldn't get the basic one.

Co-op Bank, Santander and TSB allow you to apply for their basic accounts (branded 'Cashminder', 'Basic' and 'Cash' respectively) directly.

Chase is a good one. It’s an app based bank account that doesn’t have an overdraft. I’m a lot older than your son but I have ADHD and I find the way that Chase displays my spending really useful. They have round ups too which is nice because it encourages you to save without making any effort .

  • I've just had an email from RBS about my current account that I've had for over 30 years, they are removing my overdraft limit, do you think they want rid of me?
  • I asked Monzo not to allow me an overdraft, I don’t have one but not sure what would happen if I actually requested one.

    Nationwide:
"We don’t offer unarranged overdrafts at Nationwide. Instead, we’ll try to stop any payments from coming out of your account if you don’t have enough money."

Had an email from RBS recently.  Rather than removing the overdraft entirely they reduced it by a couple of hundred pounds I think.  It wasn't a large overdraft facility and I hadn't actually used it in the decades I've had the account so I wasn't bothered and I think they are just trying to reduce their exposure to "potential" greater use of the facility than was the case.
