TFL ULEZ Car scrappage scheme

My car is not ULEZ compliant, but I can apply for a £2000 scrappage payment for it. However my MOT is expiring very soon but the car insurance last beyond that.

My question is have anyone been rejected for not having a valid MOT. It seems a waste of money to get a new MOT just for it to be scrapped. And it may not pass so further expenses too.

Scrappage schemes are designed to take cars off the road - they are not a scrap-metal buying service. Quod erat your car would need to be roadworthy - capable of being on the road - at the time in order to be taken off the road permanently.

To be eligible for the Ulez scrappage scheme the vehicle needs to have been registered with the DVLA to you at your address since 30 January 2022 or before.

You must live in one of the 32 London boroughs or the City of London and the you (the applicant) must be the registered keeper of the vehicle.

The vehicle must also have valid insurance, road tax and MOT and not meet the ULEZ emissions standards.

Spending £40 to get an MOT and a £2000 payout is 'wasting money'?
Unless you know it's going to fail of course...

    Thanks for the useful comments.

The car is going to cost £300+ to fix so uneconomical to repair as it's more than the car is worth. Besides I can't afford it. There are companies  that'll pickup the car and scrap it properly so I'll  go down that route instead.

Wouldn't it make sense to look at scrapping it before the MOT runs out?

So even after repairs and MOT, you would still gain £1,660...
