Octopus

Anyone encountered this issue with octopus?  They used to invoice me monthly until last october but ive not received anything since... until I chased them up!  Now they tell me I could save £265 by changing tariff. But my issue is why didn't they advise me of this month's ago when I could've switched AND saved my money earlier and where do I stand legally?

Also, I was on a fixed tariff but the daily standing charge increased. Are they allowed to do this on fixed tariffs?

Have you asked them why you haven't received invoices or where any other correspondence might have gone?

Some companies go so paperless that all they do is text you to say there's a message on your online account.  But if they are switching to something like that they should be notifying you in advance to tell you and give you the option to keep receiving things in the previous way.

You say you were on a fixed tariff.  Has it ended and if so when?  Is that when the SC increased?  That should be the only reason if you have gone from a fix to their standard variable one.  It could be that if that happened a month back or something that there are now better tariffs that you'd be better off on.

But back to the invoicing....I'd log a complaint with them for lack of communication in general making you unable to check your use, bills and when your fix was due to end.  The lack of communication has resulted in you being financially disadvantaged.

  • I get invoiced monthly and I pay it then. But they haven't invoiced since February when I changed tariff. So I'm simply not paying them until they invoice me. Haven't chased them either.

If you have a smart meter they will blame it on that not sending the updates.
I have sent in 4 meter readings for electric in the last month and they have still not updated my bill.
When I send a gas reading the update is within minutes.
  • Yes I have a whole nightmare going on with them currently. They seem to be struggling atm

Legally they have to send you two bills a year.

Of course you're keeping the money ready to pay them and not just planning  to feign ignorance having already announced it on a public forum.
