Renting House out - Help

Hello all
I'm new to this forum and hoping you can give me some help and advice. My OH is moving in with me soon to my rented house. He owns his house and is now hoping to rent it so that he can live in the country side along with me.
Can anyone tell me the best way to go about renting the house out - should we use agents or do it ourselves? Where can we get a good rental agreement document from? Any other things we need to consider, such as mortgage options and informing relevant authorities?
Many thanks

My advice would be to use an agent for the first six months, then research, research, research, then DIY.
Landlordzone good place to start researching

Hi
I would agree with Tassotti, I would also pick the brains of the agent find out what they do and why, and any legislation that you have to comply with etc.
I have been manageing my own properties for a few years now, when things are going okay it's straight forward, but if it goes pear shaped, ie you need to evict the tennant etc, you have to use the correct procedure and timings with regard to date of serving notice etc, or if you don't when it gets to court the judge will throw it out, and you will have to start the proccess again.0 -
Agreed.
The most important thing is to get the right person in the place..
If you really want to DIY, abide by this link

There is some common sense nonsense on there but a lot of useful info also.
