Sumup text receipt

I keep getting text receipts from sumup for purchases I havent made, no one is using my bank details as the money for these purchases don't come out of my account, is it just a case of wrong phone number?

Its either someone has given their number incorrectly, SumUp has stored it and automatically uses it each time they use the same card to pay or its a Phishing attempt if there is a link to a fake website then that gives you a "dispute this payment" option which is used to gather details from the unsuspecting.

I bought coffee with my debit card on Saturday and this morning switched on my work mobile to find a receipt on it from SumUp. How on earth did they get this number, which is not even register with my bank?

So when you have a SumUp POS in your business you can select to email/text receipts to customers who are set up on their system. It could be that the company have mistyped someone's phone number as yours.

So the receipt was for your purchase?

In which case at some point in the past you have given the mobile to a merchant, not necessarily this one, who uses SumUp to text you a receipt. SumUp retains the number against the card so can automatically text for any other of their clients you use with that card.
