wireless door bell

I've just moved into a new house. The door bell is a Micromark battery-operated wireless job, with bellpush and ringer unit. The previous owners assured me that the bell worked before the batteries ran down. I've put new batteries in both units but can't seem to get it to work. There are 4 Philips screws on both bellpush and ringer unit labelled 1-4 that i've been fiddling about with. Are these to change the tone of the bell? What am I supposed to do with them? There are no instructions and the company doesn't seem to make doorbells any more. Could anyone give me any advice? Many thanks.

I think the screws you refer to relate to the different frequencies that the system can operate on, which is to overcome the problem should your neighbour have the same doorbell. The bell push and ringer must be set to the same number in order to operate correctly. I had a similar product at my last house but over time the bell push became corroded on the battery terminals, despite being inside a porch, and refused to work.
    I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.

    Sorry to hijack this thread,but..

I bought a wireless doorbell from Focus,i think it cost about £12. When i got it home,i fitted it,and left the factory frequency settings alone. Now,i work nights,so when my wife went to work at 8.30,the doorbell rang,so i got out of bed to find there was nobody there! Then at 17.30 the doorbell rang again,i opened the door to find my wife walking down the garden path.

Conclusion.....the remote central locking keyfob for our car was on the same frequency!!

It's been fine since i picked another setting.

Thank you for your advice so far. Can anyone tell me what I should do with the Philips screws to alter the radio frequency? Unscrew one?

Battery operated wireless doorbells - grrrrrr

My Landlord installed one. Not a single person in the house could hear it, and it was so shoddy, the bell press thing on the outside of the door stopped working after 2 days, and now it has a great big hole in it!!! Cheapo piece of flexible plastic!!

All Landlords of student properties should be strung up!! Grrrrrrrr

I'd tell you the rest of the problems we have with this house, but it would make you all cry....

Wireless doorbells are great. I have been using one for aobut 4 years. if you decide to buy one then make sure that unit inside house can be plugged into a wall socket, otherwide it will eat batteries. Only unit on door should have battery which will last ages

I have had nothing but trouble with wireless doorbells and have got through three of them in a year. Fortunately I managed to find the receipt for the second one and B & Q changed it free of charge. This new one is still tempremental though and only works if you press the little button really hard - which of course most people don't.

My advice is to buy a good old fashioned knocker!!
