I can't work out why you are getting so hung on on the remap. Many many cars are remapped to provide better fuel efficiency etc.
Even if you could provide 100% proof it makes no difference. It's legal to remap a motor and from the sound of the sellers advert they have done nothing wrong.
Even though small claims is based on the 'balance of probabilities' - What would you actually claim for?

Thanks for your reply. It was told this could be the cause for the issues arising

So they probably had it remapped on a certain date, and this could be the cause of problems X months / years later. Sounds conclusive to me. Get the garage who gave you that information to agree to swear to it in a court of law.

"Your Honor, this remap, the one they might have known about, it could be cause of engine problems - along with about a hundred other possible causes."

Give it up. Like Powerful Rouge said, loads of cars are remapped without issue. Loads of cars not rermapped have engine faults. Did the car look like it had a hard life? Was there a decent record of servicing and oil changes? The lack of these things are more likely to lead to problems than a reputable remap.

Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.

I understand. There was full service history etc with recent invoices etc. low miles at 79k. I guess there isn’t much that can be done. Thanks for your advice legal proceedings are difficult
