SSE Have dug a large trench in my driveway and left it
SSE in investigating a neighbours electricity issues have dug a large trench (12 feet by 8 feet) in my driveway with cables exposed and put plastic barriers up around it. They told me it would be fixed before they started the work, but then scrambled to get out of the drive when they finished leaving the hole. I have registered a complaint to SSE but can I claim also?

When when did they dig the trench?
Have they actually finished or gone off for a lunch break, or perhaps to collect other tools?1 -
The chaps who dug up your drive will be groundworkers and not electricians. You need to speak to SSE and ask what the schedule of works entails and when they will send the groundworkers back to make good. They will only return on instructions from SSE and they may not be able to book them for a few days.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.2 -
Power failure round here took a week between digging trenches (3) finding fault (Quick, well over 2 days), temp fix, permanent fix & filling back in, followed by tarmac.
As above each bit is done by a separate team. Quite funny watching electrician sat on a pile of mud shouting at groundworks team to hurry up.
Lots of threats that if he did not shut up, he would be buried in the trench.Life in the slow lane1 -
Normally not - as long as they make it good when finished repairs - to a reasonable standard.

When my neighbour was on holiday last summer there was a gas leak and her drive was dug up. It was about a week before they filled it in, and then another couple of days before a contractor came to re-lay the drive. As someone above said there are different teams that come and do different parts of the job so it won't happen immediatly.
While my neighbour's drive had a hole in it, they left some of those yellow boards over the hole, so people could still access the house.
Fortunatly for my neighbour, it was all repaired when she got back from her holiday.0 -
As others have said, it's all different teams. The water company dug up in front of my drive to fix a leak, and you have two different people to do this. It took about 3 days for them to come back and fill and tarmac the hole, but it was no where near as large as yours.
You need to find out when the job will be done and then ask when it will be filled0
