Wall ties and underpinning

When we moved into our house we knew we had wall ties when the roof was updated. A structural engineer also reported that movement was historical and nothing since. I'm now wondering whether it was underpinned as the engineer and L3 surveyor never said anything. Do these things always go hand in hand?

When you say wall ties, do you mean tie rods and pattress plates?1

Yes sorry 🫣stuart45 said:When you say wall ties, do you mean tie rods and pattress plates?0 -
It doesn't mean the house has definitely been underpinned. If a wall is bowing out due to a lack of lateral restraint, or from roof spread for example the rods could be used to stabilise the walls.1

This is what I'm thinking now. I just automatically assumed underpinning.stuart45 said:It doesn't mean the house has definitely been underpinned. If a wall is bowing out due to a lack of lateral restraint, or from roof spread for example the rods could be used to stabilise the walls.0 -
OP, we had subsidence on our house in 2010 - the bay moved out about an inch pulling the main wall slightly. They use ties on the first floor to hold the outside wall to the side walls (not sure of specific type), but other than that it was a fix the cause (leaking drain and root growth), monitor, and then repair the cracks job. No underpinning was required.2
