Car Insurance Claim

Last year someone hit me and so I put a claim in with my insurance, the company were terrible so I asked the claim to be closed as I was cancelling the insurance with them anyway. Nothing came out of the claim as it was closed.

When looking for a renewal quote now, do I have to declare this as a claim or as it was closed does it not class as one anymore?

. If they ask had you had a claim? No
if they ask any incidents or claims? Yes

most insurers will ask some variation on the later so it’s more likely than not. You will need to answer yes

Yes you made a claim, the fact you withdrew the claim only impacts the settlement value, if you are asked it. The above advice from @cw8825 is incorrect.
  • I have located an email that stated the claim was settled as notification only and no further action is required, what does this mean?

It means the claim was registered and then closed without them having paid anything out nor having defended or declined a claim.

Will I still have to declare this when I renew?

Yes, it was still a claim.

And even if it wasn't a claim, you aren't asked only about claims.
