Consumer rights - trying to return a rug

Hi,
We bought a large rug from an online seller recently but the colours were stronger than the pictures showed and it didn't fit our room.  There was a promise that we could return the rug if it wasn't suitable so we started the process.  The  rug cost just under £500 and they provided a label for the return that would reduce our refund by £105.  Although its a UK website, it needs to be returned to Switzerland.  We also had to drop this off at a local FedEx location.  The rug is c. 7ft long so it needs two people to get it in the car and it's a bit tricky to move.  The label provided was not accepted by the FedEx site so we had to take it home, we contacted them and asked if they could get FedEx to collect it but they dont have this facility instead, they provided us with a new lable, we tried again and it failed again... we have had to drive over 40 miles and we had to return the rug within 10 days of receipt of the label.  We are now outside this time frame.  Does anyone know what our rights are?

How do you know it's a UK website? Anyone in the world can buy and use a .co.uk website.

Have you checked how much arranging your own courier would be given you are paying for the return anyway?

Hi DullGreyGuy, you're right, I don't know but assumed it was a UK website.  I haven't checked the cost as they have all the details of the product and should be able to get it correct.  I also assumed that they would have an account that would be ata better rate.  I haven't ever tried arranging a courier privately but will give it a go... I'm just worried now as they said a refund would be provided if it's returned within 10 days and we haven't been able to do that.

There are middlemen resellers of courier services and so you get most the value of their account rates from the likes of DHL etc but aren't tied to a single provider. Have a look at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cheap-parcel-delivery/
