Markets reaction to Middle East

How do we think markets might behave over the next few weeks given the Iran/Israel situation? Will there be a prolonged fallback, even the US markets, or are we more likely to be in a period of volatility? Will buying opportunities present themselves?

S&P500 futures up almost 0.6% right now. Trying to second guess it is just gambling. Hopefully it will eventually pass just like all other conflicts unless it escalates into WW3.

I have not got the faintest idea as to how markets will behave in the future and dont believe anyone else has either.  Rather than trying to guess it is better to construct a portfolio that will cope with most eventualities.  If it's WW3 your investments probably wont be your biggest worry.

If I was able to see into the future, I would be able to answer your question more accurately.

However I do not have a crystal ball, so I have no idea what will happen to markets.

Who knows, but instability in the middle east is not unprecedented.
  • Why do they call it the middle east? Is there an upper and lower East?

No, but there was a Near East and still is a Far East, albeit these are UK-centric terms....
Until World War II, it was customary to refer to areas centered around Turkey and the eastern shore of the Mediterranean as the "Near East", while the "Far East" centered on China, and the Middle East then meant the area from Mesopotamia to Burma, namely the area between the Near East and the Far East.

Because it was in the middle of the Near East (not in use anymore) and the Far East
